Gulf Air and Bahrain Islamic Bank sign $70m ijara facility

Bahrain's national carrier Gulf Air has signed a $70m facility with Bahrain Islamic Bank (BIsB). An agreement to this effect was concluded between the two organizations recently.

This four year medium-term facility will be used to partly finance eight A320 aircraft, which are expected to delivered in the fourth quarter 2009 and first quarter 2010 Gulf Air has ordered last year.

Gulf Air wins Superbrands award

Bahrain's national carrier Gulf Air has been declared a 2009 'Superbrand' at the annual gala Superbrands awards held in Dubai recently.

    

A panel of 12 Superbrand Council Members together with the votes of some 500 CEOs and members of senior management from several corporate establishments in the region adjudged Gulf Air as a 'Superbrand'.

Gulf Air won this award in competition with over 1800 established brands in the region including several airlines such as Air Arabia, Air India, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, KLM, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

Gulf Air reinforces commitment to train and develop employees

Bahrain's national carrier Gulf Air, in its continuous stride towards strengthening its in-house people skills, has embarked on several new initiatives recently.

    

As part of these initiatives, the airline has launched several training programmes in association with leading aircraft manufacturer Boeing Company.

Many employees were trained in the last few weeks on need-specific courses such as Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA) to enhance safety assurance and improve productivity, Ramp Error Decision Aid (REDA) that would help cutting down on direct and indirect costs due to ramp incidents/accidents and SMS Implementation as required by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Boeing's support for training extends from focused technical classes to high level executive development courses

The national carrier has also launched a dedicated Corporate Training and Employee Development website providing its staff access to numerous self-development tools as well as opportunities to register for suitable training courses - from soft skills to specialist technical training designed for aviation professionals - so that they can equip themselves with appropriate skills in tune with the industry needs.

Gulf Air’s new MRO service provider takes charge

National carrier Gulf Air's newly appointed maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service provider SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) took over the responsibility with effect from today from SRTechnics, who have been looking after Gulf Air' fleet until now.

In a handing-over function held at the Gulf Air hangar at the Bahrain International Airport, Mr. Felix Ammann, Vice President Gulf Region Operations SR Technics handed over a symbolic key to Mr. Johnny Eng, General Manager SIACE in the presence of Gulf Air senior management to mark the transition.

Thanking the SRT team for its cooperation and support in the transition process over the last three months, Gulf Air Director of Special Projects Mr. Jasim Al Marzooqi said:

'The change in MRO service is part of our overall management strategy as it provides us with an opportunity to refocus on our engineering and maintenance systems and processes in order to improve our operational reliability, manage costs and have a self sufficient and robust aircraft maintenance system.'Read more
